About Our Staff
Mrs. Sue Stoner
Mrs. Sue Stoner paves the way in our Pre-school department as she teaches the three year olds on Tuesday and Thursday of each week. She teaches the four year olds on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. 4 year old Pre-Kindergarten students have an option to attend 5 days a week. Mrs. Stoner has over 15 years of experience in teaching this age group. Two of those years have been at Armbrust. She and her husband Roger, have been married for 13 years. They have a son named Jake, who loves John Deere Tractors. Mrs. Stoner loves teaching and feels that there is no greater joy then to watch a child learn. She desires that her students acquire a love for learning that will last a life time. She has a really cool discovery table where her students discover water, noodles, sand and packing peanuts. What fun. In her spare time Mrs. Stoner enjoys hiking, hunting and ceramics.
Mrs. Jennifer Kirshner
Mrs. Jennifer Kirshner is the teacher for the Academy Kindergarten class. After graduating college, she spent the next eight years as a stay at home mom. This is her second year at the Academy. She was the preschool assistant for the 2007-2008 school year. She and her husband Jim have been married for ten years. They have two children, Madison and Carson who also attend the Academy.
Mrs. Kirshner is from a family of six children and grew up on a dairy farm in Kecksburg. She loves being a mom and spending time with her family at the farm. During her spare time, she enjoys baking. Mrs. Kirshner loves teaching and seeing the world through a child’s eyes. She loves the Bible verse ‘Let the children come to Me. Don’t stop them! For the kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children.” Mark 10:14b. That is why she believes and is delighted to be a part of Christian education.
Mrs. Wendi Richert
Mrs. Wendi Richert is the first grade teacher at Armbrust. She, her husband Curt and their two sons reside in Greensburg. They share their home with Emma their 13 year old Beagle/ Shepherd mix. Mrs. Camdon and Benjy attend the academy also. Mrs. Richert has been teaching for 10 years. Two of which have been at the academy. Mrs. Richert used to write for a regional newspaper’s children’s section. Having that job allowed her to visit area schools, which inspired her to go back to college for her teaching license. After she got her fist job teaching fifth grade, she knew she found her calling. Her favorite aspect to teaching is seeing the amazing growth that her students make over the course of a school year. In her spare time Mrs. Richert enjoys scrapbooking , crafting and reading crime thrillers.
Miss Michelle Rosensteel
Miss Michelle Rosensteel is the Academy second grade teacher. She graduated from Geneva College. She is involved with the children’s ministry at her church also. There she helps with the puppet team and with the children’s musicals as well as teaching the two year old Sunday school class.
Miss Rosensteel has been a substitute teacher at Hempfield. She is very excited to teach here at the Academy. She became a teacher because of her love for kids and seeing them grow. In her spare time, Miss Rosensteel enjoys dancing at Pazaz Christian Dance Academy. She enjoys spending time with her family.
Miss Holly Justice
Miss Holly Justice is the third grade teacher at Armbrust. She is a Geneva College graduate and is excited about teaching at the Academy! She enjoys sipping on a great cup of coffee, relaxing on a porch swing, playing outdoors, spending time with her wonderful friends and family. She also enjoys being involved at her church. She loves to see her students get excited about learning and getting excited about the Lord! She can’t wait for all the wonderful memories that are going to be made this year!
Mrs. Barbara Sphon
Mrs. Barbara Sphon teaches Fourth Grade. She is a native of Latrobe. She has also lived in Iowa, Florida and Texas and other areas of Pennsylvania. She returned to Latrobe in 1999 after teaching in Texas for five years. Mrs. Sphon started at Armbrust in the fall of 1999, where she taught pre-school and kindergarten. She loves teaching no matter what age the children are. Her and her husband Bill have 3 sons and one granddaughter. She loves teaching at Armbrust. She just loves her students and the wonderful parents.
Mrs. Sandy Leuthold
Mrs. Sandy Leuthold is currently teaching the seventh grade class at Armbrust. She and her husband David have three grown sons and four beautiful granddaughters. Mrs. Leuthold has been a teacher for 10 years. All of which have been at Armbrust. Mrs. Leuthold was first moved to be a teacher when her children started to go to school. She wanted to be able to teach and show her students that you can have fun while learning. She has succeed in her goal of teaching and having fun with her students and they in turn have fun during learning. She loves getting to know her students and their families. When not teaching, Mrs. Leuthold enjoys reading, gardening, traveling and having Barbie tea parties with her granddaughters. They often invite the dinosaurs to join them at their tea parties. She sounds like a pretty cool grandma!
Mrs. Heather Washabaugh
Mrs. Heather Washabaugh is happy to be the fifth and sixth grade here at Armbrust. Mrs. Washabaugh has been married to her husband Ryan for 2 ½ years. They recently had their first child, a baby boy. Her family resides in the Connellsville area. In the past, she has been a substitute teacher for the local school districts in the area. She received her degree from I.U.P. She has felt the need to have her own classroom to be able to help students develop into the youth of tomorrow. She enjoys the close loving atmosphere at Armbrust. In her spare time she loves to listen to music, travel and have family time.
